UMBC Scholar recipients are responsible for understanding the requirements of their merit scholarship agreements, and must successfully maintain these requirements each fall and spring semester. Scholars are required to sign an agreement in order to officially accept their offer by the published deadline. Feel free to contact our office for a copy of your signed merit scholarship agreement if you did not keep a copy for your records.
Scholarship Maintenance
All scholarship recipients undergo academic reviews each fall and spring semester to ensure they maintain the cumulative GPA and enrollment requirements associated with their scholarship. If a scholar fails to meet the terms of their scholarship agreement, all future iterations of their scholarship will be discontinued:

First-Year Merit Scholarships
- Require successful completion of full-time (12 or more credits) enrollment fall and spring semesters.
- Minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average fall and spring semesters.
Transfer Merit Scholarships
- Require successful completion of at least part time (6-11.5 credits) enrollment fall and spring semesters.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average fall and spring semesters.
Enrollment Changes
If a scholar falls below the required enrollment status for any reason without receiving permission from the Scholarship Review Committee, all future iterations of their scholarship will be discontinued:

- Withdrawal Requests
- Please complete this form if you are planning to withdraw from courses during the semester that would put you below the requirements of your merit scholarship agreement.

Discontinuation Appeals
- Students with extenuating circumstances failing to meet the requirements of their scholarship may appeal the discontinuation of their scholarship in the appeal window directly following their scholarship discontinuation notification.
- Note: If you choose not to appeal within the allocated time frame, your award will not be reinstated regardless of whether you show academic improvement in future semesters. This is the only period to appeal for reinstatement, and you must submit your appeal by the published deadline.
Notification of Private/Outside Scholarships
- Please complete this form if you are receiving a scholarship from an external provider.
- Do not include any scholarships received from UMBC, Scholarship Retriever, or MHEC (Maryland Higher Education Commission).

The Scholarship Retriever is available to all UMBC students and allows students to submit a general scholarship application to be considered for additional opportunities available at UMBC.
Scholarship Retriever houses both internal and external scholarship opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and international students! Monthly Payment Plan
Students may participate in UMBC’s Monthly Payment Plan, as an alternative to a one-time payment of the bill in full. Students can sign up for payment plans each semester with Student Business Services (SBS). You can find more information on payment plans and billing with SBS.
